Programme Description

The University of Regensburg offers an International Master’s Programme in Experimental and Clinical Neurosciences (ECN) that is embedded within MSc Biology . Thus students interested in ECN need to apply within MSc Biology. The decision about obtaining the ECN specialization degree can be made during the MSc Biology studies.

Key Features of the International Master's programme:

  • The curriculum is designed for outstanding students of biology or related biological subjects (e.g. biochemistry) with a bachelor degree, or equivalent, from German or foreign universities
  • Duration of the programme: 4 semesters (2.5 semesters coursework and 9 months for a scientific project (MSc thesis) to acquire the Master of Science degree)
  • Interdisciplinary and highly specialized teaching programme in experimental and clinical neurosciences in 2 of the 3 mandatory theoretical modules (for possible choices for the 3rd module see lectures and courses)
  • All lectures are ring lectures, meaning that the teachers are experts and usually also conduct scientific research on the topic of their respective lecture; the same holds for the methods seminars

  • Intensive supervision during methods seminars and in project internships
  • Interdisciplinary research projects
  • Active participation in two get-together-seminars

The ECN Programme is a registered member of the Network of European Neuroscience Schools (NENS): Federation of European Neuroscience Societies. The NENS was founded in 2003 and represents over 130 european graduate schools and programmes.  Membership of NENS helps to ensure high quality standards across programmes and also provides a number of benefits for students within registered programmes including training stipends and participation in annual meetings.
